Born on 20 January 1913, Frances Smith Harper spent the early years of her life in Alwalton in Cambridgeshire. When she was 22 she married Alfred Henry Savage (known as Joe to his friends) and together they brought three daughters into the world; Yvonne, Sheila and Hazel.
Many happy years followed with the family living in Kettering, Northants. In time, all three of Joe and Frances's daughters married and produced families of their own - eight grandchildren in total (of which I am number seven!), 21 great - grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

After 57 years of living in Kettering and fast approaching their Diamond Wedding Anniversary, the couple decided that the time had come to move to a smaller property, as health problems with both of them were taking a toll. Nearby Burton Latimer became home for the couple and they lived happily in a warden controlled ground floor flat until Frances's death from Leukaemia in October 1994.

Alfred went to live with Yvonne in Leeds following Frances's death and passed away himself in Leeds Hospital in 1997.

Both Frances's and Alfred's ashes were scattered in Alwalton River....where Frances used to play when she was young.
Both of them are more sorely missed than you can ever imagine.

I'm looking at our photo.
I know what you would say;
"There is no need to sit and cry,
cos you'll be here with me one day.
Life is very precious, your family need all your love,
I'm never far away you know,
I watch you from above.
So don't sit around and cry for me,
it's a waste of earthly time.
Just cherish and love your family,
as I still do with mine."

THERE IS A PLACE IN EVERY HEART
THEY CALL IT MEMORY LANE
WHERE THOUGHTS OF LOVED ONES LOST
FOREVER WILL REMAIN.
GOD MADE THIS SPECIAL PLACE
WHEN HE FIRST CREATED MAN.
FOR HE KNEW IT WOULD BE NEEDED
AS PART OF OUR LIFES PLAN.

HE KNEW WHEN LOVED ONES LEFT US
WE,D NEED SOME TIME TO HEAL
TO COME TO TERMS WITH SORROW
AND THE LONELINESS WE,D FEEL.

SO WHEN YOU LOSE A LOVED ONE
AND YOUR LIFE IS FILLED WITH PAIN,
THE COMFORT OF THEIR PRESENCE
WILL BE FOUND IN MEMORY LANE
